ABOUT COACHING

Did you know most youth soccer coaches, particularly of teams in younger age groups, are volunteers recruited from among the parents of players? The vast majority of them had no experience at all when they started, and learned as they went along. In addition to developing a love of the sport, they discovered a fun and enjoyable way to participate in the lives of their children. Believe it or not, some got so hooked that, even though their kids are grown, they volunteer to coach teams of young players just because they enjoy it! They are, however, not in such plentiful supply that you can assume you won't be contacted about volunteering as a coach or to help your child's coach. Here are 2 important things for you to consider:

  • Although some parents may initially be reluctant to participate as coaches because they feel they don't know enough about the sport of soccer, it is generally true that they know more than their 6, 7, or 8-year-old child and his or her friends.
  • Although some parents may be reluctant to participate as coaches because they feel they lack coaching experience, invariably they discover that having the support of our Board of Directors, who are committed to ensuring that FLSC coaches have rewarding and enjoyable experiences, alleviates any initial concerns they may have had.

When the call comes, please consider supporting your child's development in this very special way. See you on the pitch!
